Carmelita

My name is Carmelita Bongco, came from the Philippines to Sydney last 1986. i had poliomyelitis which later was diagnosed by the neurologist here as post-polio syndrome. Being a polio survivor did not stop me  to work full time  with Sydney Water as a customer service officer. After an early retirement, I took computer courses and opted to do volunteer work sharing my talent with people with different types of disabilities coming from Non-English speaking background - MDAA. At MDAA we were taught to develop our self-esteem and speak to a group about MDAA through the Community Voices Project. Most recently I got involved with the Women's Network where I type documents, photocopy flyers, and assist in filing. All of us women can do Great things - make our world a brighter place to live in.

Kerri Thorne

I'm Kerri an inner city fringe-dweller who speeds about in an electric blue wheelchair called Banshee.

I have been with the Network for several years now. I use to volunteer as an Office Wench when the Network
was based in Glebe. Since late 2005, I have been working on the Parenting with Disability Resource Project - Pathways to Parenthood - on behalf of the Network alongside both Lois and Jo. Have a tertiary background in counselling/psychology, supervision and qualitative research projects. Enjoy community work, adventures in the kitchen with food, swimming, and just getting back into re-establishing a herb garden.

Lois Gilmour
I’ve been a member of the network for a few years now. I have a Diploma in Community Services Welfare and am a member of the Parenting Resource Team.
When I started out at the Network I was sooo shy and anxious and was quite happy in the background or so I thought.
I still have problems in a social setting so prefer small groups. Somewhere along the way in the safe environment of the Network I found my voice and now work hard at not being too loud J. It takes me time to remember names and faces and to tune into people but I am passionate about our rights and empowering us all to be the best we are able to be. I love the opportunity to learn new skills and grow in confidence. My Ideal place to live would be if Glebe was in the middle of a paddock which is not really possible so I travel back and forwards between the Cty and the family property, well at the moment anyway. My interests are Star Trek Doctor Who and things SciFi and cooking wicked deserts like vanilla slice.
